Star Wars Episode VII: The Force Awakens is worse than all of the prequel movies.

Edit: also, true post is true. I cannot stand The Breakfast Club .

I don’t know, this still feels like a lukewarm take to me.

Hot Take: Inception is a senseless, pseudo-intellectual action movie.

The Breakfast Club: No clue, never seen it. My experiences with “classic” movies from the 80s and 90s has thus far been rather mixed.

Phantom Menace was a better movie and I will fight anybody who argues otherwise.

And the hottest take within Star Wars would actually be:

The AotC take is most definitely the hottest. That movie is torturous.

Sacre bleu!

I was actually serious about the terribleness of Force Awakens, though. The pacing is non-existent, the sound effects are miserable, the plot is contrived, and it’s just an orgy of J.J. Abrams’s typical overdosing on fan-service. Fuck that movie. I will put up with the cornball acting in the prequel trilogy because at least the rest of it is a consistent and decent package.

I only merely showed you what a hotter take looks like. Ep1 is still worse than Ep7, and Ep7 is an adequate Star wars move.

No, 7 was pretty bad. I have watched it over and over trying to like it, and it never sticks.

Kinja'd!!!1

Untrue.

I think the Lord of the Rings: Return... is objectively a better movie than any of the pseudo artistic films that have won the Oscar to best movie since LotR won.

Another one: Will Smith is not a good actor, he just makes really good dramatic and intense faces, this is proven by Suicide Squad.

Agree on the second part, I would argue it is overly and artificially convoluted, rather than senseless.

The score is fantastic though.

Interstellar exploration is an impossible fantasy, made so by the nature of humans themselves; a violent tribalistic cold blooded race, armed with the amazing ability to dissolve common ground and only see the ‘other’ within itself.

We want the stars, but we do not in any way deserve them. This planet, our craddle, will also be our grave.

The only way to watch the prequels is with the Phantom Edit, otherwise it’s unwatchable. The new Star Wars was to get the kids who didn’t grow up with the originals to get a sense of the new franchise with the old characters, to pass it on. The next ones look amazing.

A Hans Zimmer score makes just about anything worth watching.

I wouldn’t usually describe the movie the way I did, but he asked for the hottest of hot takes, so I chose more inflammatory adjectives.

The way you stated it is essentially what I was getting at though and I absolutely agree. Still an entertaining movie with great special effects, but not nearly as deep as everyone makes it out to be.

Yup, when I first saw your comment my first impulse was: “Yes, so right, why does no one ever say this?” On closer inspection I came to a different wording for it.

I agree completely though, it’s not a deep movie, it’s just a bunch of crazy shit happening to a Hans Zimmer score, which makes it seem a lot more interesting than it actually is; people just don’t like to enjoy movies for what they are, always trying to find artistic merit and Oscar-worthiness where maybe it doesn’t belong.

I don’t have a problem with TFA trying to pass the torch. I don’t even have a problem with it essentially being a re-hash of ANH. What I have a problem with are:

The sound effects being too quiet, inconsistent in texture, and feeling like they came out of the newest Star Trek movies with none of the Ben Burt feel carried over.

The score sounding like filler music.

That each scene feels only loosely relevant to the next and is rushed along (that Rathtar scene was way too long for being so utterly meaningless in terms of story and character development, though).

That the Starkiller weapon is ridiculous even within the constraints of Star Wars physics...it somehow traveled light-years instantly and it splits and everybody could see everybody else getting zorched? Tacky.

That J.J. was not allowed to blow up Corsuscant like he originally intended, making that whole death-of-the-Republic scene kind of confusing for established fans.

That Snoke is a stupid name.

That the First Order is not being called what they fucking are: the Imperial Remnant.

That Poe Dameron’s demonstrated piloting ability is cartoonishly good to a degree not shown in any other movie.

Rey really is too good at everything. Sorry, not sorry.

There is more, but suffice it to say it’s just a mountain of small deficiencies. The movie doesn’t develop organically, it’s all forced and artificial. Phantom Menace and its sequels are much better assembled, for all their own flaws.

Now that J.J. is out of the picture, though, I think the films will improve. J.J. should never be allowed to touch established franchises ever again.

The breakfast club doesn’t have a single sympathetic character partially because none of them are written with any sort of nuance or depth. It’s heavy handed. And also like why is every John Hughes film so like white? Like do people of color not exist in the Chicago suburbs (save for that entirely offensive “wacky Asian" caricature)?
